Course Description
The Web Page Design 1 (Web Design) course is designed to introduce the elements involved in designing Web pages using HTML, CSS, and graphics.  In addition, the use of Web authoring software such as Dreamweaver, and Fireworks (or Photoshop) will also be covered. Throughout the year, students will be required to develop Web pages, both individually and with partners.

The Web Page Design 2 (Web Development) course utilizes the aforementioned Web technologies with an emphasis on development (programming). This is accomplished by building on skills in HTML, CSS, and graphics.  Students add to their skill set by learning JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and database theory using MS Access and MySQL.

General Objectives

  • Learn Internet technologies
  • Utilize web authoring software efficiently and effectively
  • Utilize proper development techniques in planning and developing Websites
  • Produce professional level Websites

Materials Needed

  • A notebook for class notes (seldom used)
  • A pen or pencil (used even less, but bring anyway)

There are no textbooks for these classes. All material is learned via lecture, the Web, in-class demonstrations, hands-on activities, and projects. Taking notes is vital and required.  Fortunately, you will be able to take notes online.

Behavior Standards/Consequences
The following class rules will be enforced:

Students are expected to arrive on time and follow school and class rules. Internet game playing, unauthorized Web surfing, and computer settings changes are prohibited. Absolutely no food or sodas are allowed. Students are expected and encouraged to communicate and assist one another. However, class volume should still be kept low.
